In the world of German luxury automakers, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are two of the best. Both vaunted manufacturers have a century of history behind them, have enthusiastic vehicle owners, and are moving forward with an electrified future that means lower costs of ownership for drivers who want plug-in convenience without having to worry about high gas prices in South Riding and Centerville.
Take a look at which carmaker is better in the Audi vs. Mercedes-Benz debate with this handy guide from Mercedes-Benz of Chantilly.
Both German automakers rely on a long history of engineering as well as modern design principles to make some of the world’s most recognizable cars. Audi began in 1909 and features a long history of providing premium vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz is its own standalone brand. One of its subsidiaries tests and manufactures racing engines for Formula One cars, some of the fastest race cars in the world that reach speeds well over 200 mph. EVs are part of the future and for 2023, the Mercedes-EQ lineup features a more robust selection than Audi.
Both Audi and Mercedes-Benz have plenty of models out for 2023. Many of the Mercedes-Benz models had no changes from the 2022 versions but they were all-new for the 2023 model year. Both manufacturers released all-new EVs and electric SUVs for the 2023 model year as part of a push to have a large percentage of sales come from electric vehicles in the future.
Both automakers are based in Germany. However, Mercedes-Benz has two assembly plants in the United States, one in South Carolina and the other in Alabama. The one in South Carolina manufactures Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. The Alabama assembly plant makes the GLE, GLS, and all-new EQS SUVs. Audi has some assembly plants in Germany but none in the United States.
Personally, we would like to think “no” simply because the Mercedes-Benz brand is more popular in America, and the automaker produced more vehicles in 2023, including EVs. You might even see some Mercedes-Benz models made in the United States on Ashburn and Chantilly roads.
